The Topeka Doula Project empowers families through evidence-based Doula support. We provide comprehensive perinatal education, continuous labor support, dedicated postpartum care, and community connection. We create a nurturing environment which provides unbiased information to teens, incarcerated mothers, KanCare members, and undocumented families. The Topeka Doula Project fosters positive birth and postpartum experiences through encouraging informed decisions and healthy choices.
Our Mission
Our Vision
The Topeka Doula Project envisions a future where every family, regardless of circumstance, has access to a safe, supported, and empowered perinatal experience.
Our Origin
Topeka Doula Project, Inc. is a Topeka area nonprofit starting in November of 2017, offering free doula support to teen mothers, incarcerated and reintegrating mothers, low-income mothers and their families, and immigrants.
Our motivation is the community we serve. We know what the research says about maternal mortality and infant mortality in Kansas. Research also tells us how doulas can give families a healthier outcome and childbirth experience. Because access and cost to doulas are limited to money, we don't want that to be a barrier. We love the community based doula model, because it puts the “unmeasurable” things into perspective of health. Our motivation is believing that everyone should have access to a better-quality perinatal experience.
